Occupational Therapy
Assessment, mobility, injuries, fall prevention and independent living.
Occupational therapy is a type of health care which helps to solve problems that interfere with people's ability to do the things that are important to them. These problems may be the result of injury, disease, aging or the environment. Occupational therapists work with people of all ages to promote health, prevent disability and develop or maintain abilities. Goals are determined by the therapist and the client to be delivered in the context of the client's home environment.
Some examples of how an Occupational Therapist may assist a client:
- by helping the client learn new ways of doing daily tasks (ie: dress with one arm following a stroke)
- by helping the client adapt the materials and/or equipment they use (ie: wheelchairs/walkers)
- by helping to make changes in the clients environment (ie: order equipment to assist with transfers)
The benefits of occupational therapy
Occupational therapy can benefit people of all ages and abilities. Through client-centered treatment plans, occupational therapists can address a wide range of challenges that a person is experiencing. These may include difficulties in areas of self-care, leisure and productivity due to physical, cognitive, developmental or emotional challenges.
Adapt Occupational Therapy was created to enhance quality of life and enable independence in everyday living.
